Support for everyday life and emotional wellbeing
At Positive Steps, we understand that mental health can affect confidence, motivation, routines, relationships and the ability to manage everyday life.
Our support is flexible and built around the individual. We can support you at home, in the community, one-to-one or through inclusive groups and activities.
Your support plan will set out what you would like help with, the goals you want to work towards and how you prefer to be supported.

Medication support
Medication support is tailored to the individual. It may include reminders and prompts, support with prescriptions and, where agreed, administering medication.
Medication will only be administered when it is included in the person's agreed support plan and risk assessment, clear instructions and the necessary consent or authority are in place, and the staff member has been trained and assessed as competent. All administration will follow Positive Steps' medication policy and recording requirements, including Medication Administration Record (MAR) documentation where required.
A trauma-informed way of working
We recognise that trauma can affect trust, communication, emotional regulation, relationships, routines and a person's sense of safety. Our staff focus on choice, collaboration, respectful communication, predictability and consistency, adapting support to reduce distress and avoid re-traumatisation wherever possible.
People do not have to disclose traumatic experiences to access our support. Trauma-informed support describes the way we work; it is not counselling, trauma therapy or clinical treatment.
Staff training and development
All Positive Steps staff complete a full induction and ongoing core training relevant to their role. Our core training includes:
- Safeguarding Adults Level 1
- Safeguarding Adults (Advanced) Level 2
- Mental Health Awareness
- Autism Awareness
- Risk Assessment Awareness
- Medication Awareness and Safe Administration of Medication, including medication recording and MAR documentation
Training is refreshed as required and supported by regular supervision. Where a role includes administering medication, the staff member must also be assessed as competent before carrying out that responsibility.

Do you or someone that you know need a little extra support?
We assist individuals who are 18+ with a range of mental health challenges, including schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, personality disorders, depression, anxiety, OCD, autism, ADHD, and mild learning difficulties.
We take the time to truly know each individual, offering positive steps — big or small — at their own pace.
Groups, activities and social connection
Loneliness and isolation can have a significant effect on mental health. Our groups and activities offer opportunities to build confidence, enjoy meaningful experiences and connect with other people in a welcoming environment.
- Inclusive group activities and organised trips
- Creative, social and wellbeing activities
- One-to-one activities for people who are not ready for a group
- Support to develop communication and social confidence
- Opportunities to meet people and build positive friendships
- Activities adapted wherever reasonably possible to support inclusion
You will never be pressured to join a group or take part in an activity that does not feel right for you.
Short-term and step-up support
Where we have capacity, we may be able to provide short-term, short-notice or temporary additional support.
- Support following a hospital stay or discharge
- Support during a move or change of accommodation
- Temporary help while longer-term arrangements are organised
- Additional support to prevent a decline in wellbeing
- Support during a difficult change in circumstances
- Temporary support to reduce isolation or re-establish routines
Availability will depend on staffing, location, the person's needs and whether Positive Steps can provide the support safely.
Support for families and carers
Supporting someone you care about can sometimes feel overwhelming. With the person's agreement, we can work alongside families and carers, provide consistent support and help everyone understand the agreed goals and arrangements.
Planned one-to-one or community support may also give family carers time to rest or attend to other responsibilities, where this forms part of the agreed support arrangement.
